Goblins, also known as Rakash or Greenskins, are one of the races which appear in Of Orcs and Men, and to an extent, in Styx: Master of Shadows.

Appearance Edit

Goblins are small, humanoid like creatures with large ear's that point outwards from their heads. They usually they don't wear clothes, with the exception being loincloths, tied around their hips.

Goblins are usually unintelligent and deceitful, and aren't even capable of proper speech. However, Styx is an exception to this, as he wears full clothing and is the only known Goblin capable of proper human speech.

The origins of the goblins is one that has been shrouded in mystery. During the events of Of Orcs and Men, it was revealed that the goblin race had only existed for a few centuries, with little knowledge of where they had come from.

During the events of Styx: Master of Shadows, which took place roughly two-hundred years before Of Orcs and Men, the first "goblins" were merely clones of the original Styx, who was in reality a mutated orc who had come into contact with the Amber of the World Tree, which had been locked in the floating tower of Akenash. By the end of the game, the player (a highly intelligent clone of the original Styx) had destroyed the Heart of the Tree during the final confrontation with the original Styx, and plunged into a vast lake of Amber beneath the Tree. From this sacrifice, the goblin race was born from the golden slime of the Tree. Thousands of goblins emerged from the lake, climbed up the World Tree, and tore the original Styx apart. However, the highly intelligent clone would survive, with his memory wiped, with exception of a name: "Styx."

After these events, the goblins would multiply at a surprisingly fast rate, an event known as the "Green Plague." In response to this, an organization known as CARNAGE was formed, to combat the rapidly growing population of goblins, in Styx: Shards of Darkness.

It's common knowledge that goblins are primitive at best, with little intelligence beyond natural instinct. With the exception of Styx, goblins cannot speak, or even communicate beyond growls and snarls. However, it is apparent that goblins can be trained, similar to dogs, and follow a caretaker. This was the case with a man named Sarkyss, who treated his trained goblins as children.

Trivia Edit

Goblins only appear in Styx: Master of Shadows as either clones of Styx, or at the very end of the game. Otherwise they do not make any appearance in the game.

It is possible that the Goblins are pivotal to the story of Styx: Shards of Darkness, as the game takes place in the heart of Körangar, the city of the Dark Elves. The Elves have joined forces with the Dwarves, with both races sharing only one thing in common. Mutual hatred for the Goblins.
